Colorblind

1 min read
I wish the world was colorblind.
That way it would not matter if we were
Black or white or brown.
In our eyes we would all be the same,
All be equal.
No fear of difference that controls our hearts.

If the world was colorblind,
No sadness of discrimination would occur.
Peace and tranquility would be our skin,
No colors No pain.
This place of harmony.

But the world is not colorblind.
We judge each other by the colors we see,
Harming one another beyond repair.
We will never be colorblind,
For this is the fate we must share.

A little poem I wrote awhile back. Thought I might post it or something, I don't know. Enjoy?

So in my English class, we had to write about an event in our lives that changed us. I choose to write about my very first anime convention: Kumoricon 2012.

Otaku Paradise

I'm an otaku; a total and complete nerd about anime, video games, and everything Japanese. I enjoy spending hours watching anime and reading manga. My bedroom walls are covered ceiling to floor with posters, wall scrolls, and anything from Japan. I even have a black short sword with a dragon carved around it hanging above my bed. Because of my intense interest in this culture, it led me to the haven for all otaku: Kumoricon!
My very first anime convention is a memory that I will never forget.  Taking place in Vancouver, Washington, my older brother and I drove together with friends to a place where every otaku can be themselves without being afraid of being judge by their peers. Cosplayers, people dressing up as their favorite characters, blanket the sidewalks and park. A man in an Alucard costume passes by our car, I give out a small squeal. Otaku were everywhere I looked, I was home.
Not too long after I arrived at the con, people began to call out "Alice! Can I get your picture?" I was dressed as Alice from Alice Madness Returns the video game and plenty of people recognized my character. I felt like I was famous. A girl I had never met before came up to me and asked if she could get a hug. Then we began to talk about the video game and other games we have played. Nowhere else in the world can you feel like family with a total stranger.
Even though I was making friends with new people, I spent most of my time with my friends from school who had also come to the convention. Together we explored the panels available, took pictures of our favorite characters, and even got our pictures taken. We weren't afraid to act like dorks there because we were surrounded by people who were just like us.
While wondering through the convention center I happened to run into someone who fit with my cosplay perfectly: the Mad Hatter. Hatter's cosplay was amazing. He was dressed as the Mad Hatter who was a villain in the original Batman comics, with his black and white checkered hat and cloak. Standing next to him I was a good foot and half shorter. I really felt like a little girl next to him. But he was a nice guy and was always in character. Every time I saw him he was always asking for tea from a nearby Sebastian, or when he was sitting down he would call out "Change seats!" and the people around him would play along. When we were in line for the Cosplay Fashion Show someone asked Hatter for a picture. Being polite I backed away so I wouldn't be in the shot. But Hatter, being mad like he is, grabbed me, put his arm around me and they took the picture. That happened more than once.
When I was coming back from the artist alley after buying a poster and badges, my friends and I ran into two cosplayers dressed as Ciel and Sebastian from Black Butler, one of my favorite anime. I jumped at the idea of getting a picture with them. They happily accepted. But it didn't turn out like all the other pictures we had taken that day. They found out that I was a huge fan-girl and thought that they would mess with me bit.
Sebastian gave me a kiss on the cheek for the picture. My friend took forever to take the picture so he had to kiss me three times before we got it! Ciel had to take it up a step so he took my hand and bowed while kissing my hand.  I never had been so happy in my entire life. I nearly fainted afterward and had to sit down for awhile before we could start walking again.
Kumoricon was filled with unique and strange people. I had no idea that being around such great creative people would change me. I have stepped up a level in my fandom. After the con I found myself more outgoing and sociable than before.  My love for the anime world has increased and my goal for being ultimate otaku has begun. I wonder what will happen in Kumoricon 2013?
